We're 60 percent funded a week and a day into the campaign! A big thanks to every backer that has gotten us here.
You may have noticed our numbers declined by $210. That's because a highly suspicious pledge went away. We knew it was only a matter of time before the backer cancelled or Kickstarter cancelled them. No sweat. We march onwards!
I had a blast spreading the word last Saturday at Golden Apple Comics signing people up on the mailing list and celebrating Free Comic Book Day.
Today, I'll be talking to Peter Simeti about a subject near and dear to my heart, Heroism in Storytelling on the Comic Book Radio Livestream at 6pm Pacific Time.
Jack Holder's fantasy tale of heroes, monsters and magic is almost funded.

Happy Free Comic Book Day!
In honor of FCBD, every physical backer will be getting a free bookmark that features Tinseltown on one side, and The Children's Vampire Hunting Brigade on the other!
If you're in the L.A. area I'll be signing at Golden Apple Comics from 3-5 pm today. If you get a chance, stop by and say hello.
I had a blast last night meeting some cool comics creators on the Explain Yourself Livestream last night. If you missed it you can catch it here:
What Do You Want to See?
We're at the half way mark now in terms of funding, so a huge thank you to everyone that has backed so far! If there is anything in terms of rewards for the campaign that you'd like to see, please let us know! We can't say for certain we can make your requests happen this campaign, but we'll definitely try, and if enough people request the same thing, you can bet we'll make it available eventually!
Autobiographical graphic novel by T. Perran Mitchell, exploring the legal and emotional aftermath of being robbed at gunpoint. This looks like a really interesting and sadly all too relevant project. It's gonna need some help to make it's goal in time, but hopefully it'll get there!
This project is a thought provoking one that postulates what if the racial history of the US was reversed.
The Woman That Inspired Tinseltown

See that picture of the woman in the middle? That's Miriam Lucarelli, my mom. I think it might be the only one I have of her in her uniform. She was notoriously camera shy. I vividly remember when I took it. She was about to go to work, and I asked her to wait a minute so I could take her picture. When she asked why I told her I didn't think I had any pictures of her in her uniform so she reluctantly allowed herself to be photographed.
What was it like to have your mother be a cop? I was always proud of her. It could be stressful. She had a meat cleaver thrown at her once. Luckily it missed. She and her partner apprehended a murderer. An award was given out, that was accepted by her Captain in their stead, who conveniently forgot to tell them about the ceremony. I remember looking out the window when she would go to work the night shift on freezing snowy winter nights in Pittsburgh and worrying about her. Saying a prayer that she would come home.
My mother never got to see the first Tinseltown graphic novel. I was in the embryonic stages of writing the first draft when we found out she was dying of leukemia. But I did get to read it to her and act it out. She told me she liked it, but cautioned me to make sure I avoided cliches. She was my biggest fan, but she was no pushover!
Is the character of Abigail Moore my mom? It's not so simple as that. Abigail is an amalgamation of many strong women I've known over the course of my life, but there is definitely a lot of my mother in there. When my parents divorced, my mother had to pick a new career in her late thirties to ensure that I could continue to live with the same living standards I had grown up with. She chose a career that was hard, stressful, sometimes rewarding, and sometimes completely demoralizing in which she sometimes risked her life to protect others and bring home a paycheck. That willingness to do whatever it takes for the people she loves, no matter what the consequences or the odds that you'll find in Abigail Moore? Yeah, that part comes from my mom.
Thanks for backing and helping me keep her memory alive!
New Single Issue Reward Level, Live Stream Friday, & Other Kickstarters

1.Thanks to all the backers that joined me on the Alterna Comics Livestream last night. We took an in-depth look at the Kickstarter, and had fun talking about the best and worst comic book adaptations. If you missed it, you can watch a replay HERE:
2. Because the single issue reward levels immediately sold out, I've added a new one that features all 12 issues of Tinseltown, minus only the out of print and now completely sold out "Abigail O'Leary," that I used to shop to publishers. I reached out to my publisher to see if I can get additional single issues but right now, it's limited to 2 spots to back.
3. This Friday night I'm going to be on the Explain Yourself Livestream at 8 PM Pacific along with a bunch of other kickstarter comics creators. You can watch it HERE.
4. I backed a couple more Kickstarters I found: CARMILLA UNBOUND #1 is a fully funded NSFW thriller featuring the original literary vampire reborn in blood, sex, and magic.
Stephan Franck's PALOMINO Volumes 2 & 3 is a fully funded neo-noir adventure set in L.A.'s Country Clubs that it looks to me like fans of Tinseltown would like, but if you're going to back it, hurry! It's only live for 26 more hours.
A Hectic Morning and a Livestream Tonight!

First of all a huge thank you to the first 45 backers of this Kickstarter! I'll be taking the time to thank everyone individually, but for now I just want to say your support collectively means a lot. We still have some early bird perks in the form of trading cards, but they are going fast!
I'll be joining the Alterna ComicsLivestream this evening at 6pm Pacific time to talk about this project, and also discuss with some fellow comics creators Hollywood's Comic Adaptations: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly. You can join us here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1hTbI36X3Q
Finally, if you're looking for other comic book Kickstarters to check out, check out The Maul #1, run by my old Long Beach Comic Con tablemate Ryan Little. Ryan is a writer for Marvel Studios known for I Am Groot and What If..., and this is his 29th funded campaign! Here's the tagline: When her local mall becomes the nest for a SPACE MONSTER, local park ranger Sam teams with the last space cop to slay the beast. To me The Maul looks like a great 80's style sci-fi action horror comic in the vein of The Thing and Terminator.
